Danish tennis player Holger Rune, currently ranked number 11 in the world, announced that he will be out of the courts for an indefinite period due to an Achilles tendon injury that will require surgery. The injury occurred during the Nordic Open semi-final in Stockholm on Saturday. Rune was forced to retire from the match against Ugo Humbert, while leading with a score of 6-4 and 2-2. It’s going to be a while before I can step on the court again. It’s difficult. I felt so much joy on the court in Stockholm and it’s unbearable to think that I won’t feel this energy for some time.

The 22-year-old tennis player revealed that his Achilles tendon suffered a “complete rupture in the proximal part” and that he will undergo surgery next week. Rune has managed to reach the quarter-finals in three Grand Slam tournaments and reached the number 4 position in the world ranking.
