Sonia Raman Makes History in the WNBA as Head Coach of the Seattle Storm
New York Liberty assistant Sonia Raman has agreed to a multi-year deal to become the new head coach of the Seattle Storm, according to sources.
This appointment marks a significant milestone in WNBA history, as Raman becomes the first person of Indian origin to take on the head coaching position. Previously, Raman also made history as the first Indian-American woman to be an assistant in the NBA.
Raman was on the coaching staff of the Memphis Grizzlies from 2020 to 2024 and last season was part of the Liberty team. The agreement with the Storm was negotiated by Andy Latack and Steve Neff of Klutch Sports.
